PROJECT:

Kukuiula, located on Kauai's South Shore, is a residential community of homes and homesites surrounded by private resort amenities, including a 5-star spa, 10-acre farm, tennis and pickleball courts, a Tom Weiskopf golf course, clubhouse, restaurants, bars, shopping and pools. Within walking distance of Kukuiula Harbor, this community has a tight relationship with the ocean. Residents and visitors alike utilize the outfitters on property to assist with their excursions, whether that be kayaking, sailing, canoeing, biking, hiking, snorkeling, you name it. 

 

South & Home does quite a bit of work within the Kukuiula community. While some projects are vacation rentals, this project was for an owner occupant who wanted to freshen up the Kukuiula Club Cottage he and his wife had purchased years prior. They may vacation rent this home again at some point in the future, so we were focused on making it feel like their own, and with substantial materials in order to withstand the toll of renters.

South & Home's design team specified new paint colors throughout, flooring refinishing, design materials for the countertops, window treatments, electrical and plumbing fixtures, as well as furniture and decor. The pieces that the client previously loved, were retained and reupholstered with fresh fabrics throughout. South & Home focused on comfort and practicality while designing this casual and contemporary cottage. While there was an aim for modern pieces, there was also a goal to incorporate rustic wood pieces and woven textures. The addition of bold patterned fabrics give the space a sense of new and now, while the washed gray linen, denim blues and contemporary lighting allow for the statement pieces to shine, namely the bold art throughout the space. Finally, balancing and marrying varying wood tones and finishes was a key objective. 

 

Aside from designing the space, South & Home also project managed several subcontractors including painters, hardwood flooring refinishers, countertop fabricators, electricians, plumbers, window treatment installers, and movers in order to complete the install at this Kukuiula Club Cottage.
